There has been a lot of talk in the media about what has begun to sound like a foregone conclusion: that in addition to our current occupation of Iraq, the United States may soon initiate violent aggression against Iran.

And when there is a lot of talk in the news media about something that hasn’t yet happened, that’s often the way a people are prepared for something that is about to happen, whether they like it or not.

I’m a patriotic American, and I love my country.  And because I love my country, I don’t want any of my fellow Americans killed over an unclear or uncertain purpose.

And if you are an American and support our country’s current position in Iraq, then I ask you to explain to me, in clear language, four simple points: (1) exactly what we are hoping to achieve there and (2) why, (3) what evidence exists that where we are is the right place to accomplish this, and finally, (4) what is it that you think must happen in order for the war to end?

If you can’t answer those questions, you can’t possibly feel that it’s worth so many deaths for us to stay - let alone start another war with yet another country.

If you are against the war in Iraq and are opposed to the idea of now attacking Iran, have you written a letter to your Senator or Representative to say so?  Not signed an online petition and not sent an email, but wrote and mailed an actual letter.  It doesn’t even have to say more than

Dear Senator (or Congressperson),
I’m opposed to our presence in Iraq, and I don’t want American forces in Iran.

Then sign your name, spend the few dimes on a stamp, and mail it.  It means something.

If this is a subject you feel strongly about, isn’t it worth a few minutes of one day?

You can locate a mailing address for your representatives here:
